TORRENTIAL rain didn’t stop a group of youngsters from Buchanan Primary School skipping non-stop for an hour-and-a-half on Sunday to raise more than £500 toward new equipment and resources for the school.

For the National Park visitor centre in Balmaha came to the rescue, offering the 12 energetic kids the cover of its outdoor classroom when the bad weather threatened to wreck their fundraising fun.

The school’s Jenny Townsend tells G63: “The school children come from as far afield as Balfron, Croftamie, Drymen, Milton of Buchanan, Balmaha and Sallochy and they skipped non-stop between 1pm and 2:30 pm with a wee break in between for bananas!  There was always someone skipping during that time.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for such small school.”

And as well all the fun of the event, the participants had their efforts rewarded with an ice cream courtesy of the village’s St Mocha coffee shop.
