The Zips

zips-album - 1FIRST generation Glasgow punks The Zip’s launched their latest album to a packed house at McChuill’s in Glasgow last week.

Some G63 readers will know frontman JonZip from his solo appearances at Buchanan Hall over the last year or two where he’s won many local fans.

The band is, effectively a full-on electric version of the same Clash/Strummer-influenced, socially aware punk rock. We’re fans of all The Zips releases but the latest Down With The Zips is even better than it’s predecessors.

All killer, no filler – standout tracks for us here at G63 HQ are Once Upon a Time, No Dancing and opener Hear Hear.

We’re still waiting on download info for the new album so if you want  copy you’ll have to head into Glasgow and pick one up at New Hellfire Club Records (in the Hidden Lane off Argyle St) or Love Music (Dundas St).
