KIDS and adults alike literally got a taste for geology at Balmaha visitor centre yesterday (Sunday 27 September).

For before building erupting volcanos and enjoying a guided geology walk around the area, participants in the latest Wild Balmaha event learned about the local geology by comparing rock types and behaviours to….chocolate!

Seasonal ranger Ian McNab’s interactive talk used chocolate for props to give his audience a tasty and fun insight to the topic.

After the talk, the group split in two with some participants enjoying an informative walk with ranger Sarah Badman-Flook and Dr Simon Cuthbert from the University of the West of Scotland. The others were delighted to make model volcanos and watch them erupt, simulating their real-life counterparts.
