BEN Lomond walkers are being diverted from the usual routes during May and June due to a series of path upgrade works on the Ben Lomond hill path.
The first stage of work involves the upgrade of the first section of footpath between Rowardennan car park and the forest road. A diversion is in place to lead visitors from the car park, along the West Highland Way and on to the forest road before re-joining the main hill path further up as illustrated below. Information is also displayed at the Rowardennan car park and the diversion route will be signposted from there.
After this first section has been completed it will be re-opened before the path upgrade works continue on the next section of the hill path between the forest road and the open hill, at which point a subsequent diversion will be put in place.
An alternative route to the Ben Lomond summit is available throughout the works via the Ptarmigan Ridge however, this should only be attempted by experienced hill walkers who are suitably equipped to tackle this more strenuous route.
All works are due to be completed by the end of June 2016.
